Meerilinga Training College staff and students have the privilege of working alongside vulnerable members of our community as we prepare the next generation for careers in Early Childhood Education and Care. We remain committed to creating safe and inclusive learning environments with clear procedures that empower our staff and students, as well as the children we work with.
The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse revealed systemic failures in the way that some organisations protect children. As a result, child safety standards were introduced to ensure organisations proactively prevent harm and abuse.
While the College has always strived to keep all those who interact with our organisation safe and free from harm, we welcome the newly introduced Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2025 that provides guidance on ways to improve the systems and processes to help us to continue to achieve this goal. As part of this change, Meerilinga Training College is required to comply with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, which provide a consistent framework for protecting children across all sectors.
Meerilinga’s Child Safety Statement reinforces this commitment to safeguard children from abuse, neglect and exploitation. This statement also reflects Australia’s ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to uphold and protect the full range of rights for children and young people, and Meerilinga’s broader remit to promote the rights of children.
